Ingest or Inhale, What’s the Difference?

The 2 most preferred ways of consuming cannabis are either to eat it or smoke it. Both provide a significant difference in how each user experiences their dose of CBD and/or THC.

The 2 primary chemicals in marijuana are CBD, which is non-psychoactive, & THC, which is psychoactive. The high feeling of THC and the effects of CBD can feel different depending on if you smoke or eat the chemicals.

INHALING SMOKE OR VAPOR

When the active chemicals in cannabis are inhaled, you will immediately start to feel the effects as they begin to peak around 30 minutes. The effects can last up to 6 hours after use with some residual effects lasting up to 24 hours after use.

When THC/CBD is inhaled, the chemicals are broken down through a different metabolic process than if you were to ingest them. The chemicals travel straight to your brain since your body does not have to take the time to process the chemicals through your stomach and liver. This is why smoking provides immediate effects unlike when they are eaten.

INGESTING INFUSED FOOD, TABLETS, OR LIQUIDS

When you eat cannabis it must be broken down by your digestive system in order to get into your bloodstream to reach the brain. The liver processes THC and CBD into a stronger form that adds more intensity to each chemical's effect. This makes edible THC/CBD products more potent than inhaled cannabis.

It does however take a bit more time for the effects of ingested THC/CBD to start working. After 30 minutes to 2 hours, you will start to feel results with the peak beginning within 4 hours and can last anywhere from 12 to 24 hours.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Vaporizing cannabis is a more health-conscious alternative to smoking the actual cannabis flower; however, ingesting marijuana is the preferred choice for those who are really looking out for their health.

When trying THC edibles begin with a low dose consuming no more than 2.5mg at a time. Allow 24 hours before taking any more to gauge how your body reacts. Slowly up your dose until you reach desired effects.

New to inhaling THC? Start with low testing products that have around 10% THC content.

Since CBD is non-psychoactive, you don’t need to worry about ingesting too much at one time. If too much THC is ingested or inhaled, feelings of over-intoxication can take place but will subside over time.

It is always important to carefully read each label when trying any new THC or CBD product. If you have any more questions feel free to stop in and talk to one of our knowledgeable budtenders, or give us a call anytime 888.JAXX.420
